Like most of the Himba my hostess would spend every spare moment playing with and nursing her children. Himba children therefore seem extremely healthy and strong - the main reason they have been able to hold on to their proud old traditions in the midst of globalization. This stood in such strong contrast to the neglect of children I saw in the cities of Namibia.
