People in Namibia's slums:
Grandmothers - Namibia's real mothers

When I lived with Salmi in Ovamboland we would spend Sundays going to the country side to see her children. Like most women in the cities Salmi sends her children to be brought up with their grandmother from they are about 5 years old. Since Salmi's mother took care of all the children of Salmi's sisters too, they were all individually neglected and deeply under stimulated. Thus the city people grow up without the strength and moral fiber I found in the Himba people, who spend all their time loving and caring for their children.
