Photos
of CARE's work in Uganda
As an advocacy organization for
these marginalized groups CARE is not as visible in their
actual landscapes as I have seen it in other countries. I am
mostly here including some pictures of my wonderful driver,
interpreter and photographic helper, Andrew Baguma, without
whom I could not have made these photos. Seeing how people
everywhere right away knew him and eagerly related to him
convinced me that even though I here did not see CARE build
water irrigation or sanitation systems as I have seen it
elsewhere, CARE evidently were giving these people some
invaluable support. I have often lectured about how
we must remove racism from development
work by NOT sending white Westerners out to do
the work, but trust the natives to do it themselves. In
Uganda this is exactly what CARE is doing by working through
local organizations such as
REPA.
