I had picked up a poor hitchhiker on my first American lecture tour. During our long drive he revealed things that made me suspect he’d been a victim of incest. So in a loving way I asked about his childhood, and sure enough, he poured out how his father had raped him again and again. It became a long therapeutic drive after which he was so grateful that he begged me to with him to the Klan rally he was going to as a member. These three men were some of his friends.
