Alex Haley

I had during my last year of vagabonding in 1975 read in Reader's Digest that a black American had found his roots in Africa. It was before I heard about "Roots" and I found it so sensational that when a year later my own book "American Pictures" came out I told my publisher to secure the Danish rights also to Alex Haley's Roots.
Thus I was very proud to have Alex Haley come to our multi-ethnic work collective so I could present my slideshow for him. Here he is seen in my small theater, but I have to confess that of my 5 hour show was too much for him. He fell asleep shortly after the beginning about the slaves being sailed across the ocean to America since he had jetlag from flying the opposite way the same morning :-)
Here is is seen with my parents and members of our collective and for the dinner afterwards. He was later a bit annoyed since everybody in Denmark mostly asked him about his previous extremely popular book about Malcom X rather than about his own Roots.
