My son was born on the day of Zimbabwe's first free elections in 1980. So I had wanted to name him after the freedom fighter and founding farther, Mugabe, since American Pictures was about to start its first aid projects in the country. The president's wife, Sally Mugabe, heard about it and called me up to meet my newborn son. Sally was incredibly popular, but after her death Mugabe turned into a more and more despotic and homophobic direction. Today I am glad that my son is not called Mugabe.
