In California I worked closely with Popeye Jackson in the prison reform
movement. He received many death threats - even from police. Through the
work we became closely bound to each other and one night I should have driven
home with him to select the photos I had taken for his prison paper. That night
he was assassinated and had I been with him in the car I would have been too.
